Four buildings across the Bronx and Manhattan got hit with elevator violations on October 1, per DOB ECB records — and two of them involve cars that were already out of service when the inspector showed up.

At 1434 Ogden Avenue in the Bronx, DOB issued a Class 1 cease-use order against SCS Realty LLC after finding the door zone restrictor and the in-car stop switch both inoperative, violations of ASME A17.1 and the city's elevator code. Penalty: $1,250, hearing set for December 18.

At 1465 Nelson Avenue — a senior housing development in the Bronx — one of the building's two elevators was found out of service and unavailable for passenger use, a Class 2 violation against Nelson Senior Housing Dev carrying a $1,562 penalty. A few blocks away at 1601 Bronxdale Avenue, inspectors found a car with no working in-car emergency communication, no working ventilation, a hatch door that wouldn't close, and a car that was scraping the hoistway fascia during travel — a $625 Class 2 citation against the building's ownership entity (DMARC 2007-CD5 Garden Str).

Outside the five boroughs' usual pattern, a self-storage facility in Staten Island at a BIN tied to U-Store-It L P PTA drew a Class 2 citation for an out-of-service elevator the department called a hazardous condition requiring immediate restoration, per the violation text — a $625 penalty.

None of these citations describe an injury. They describe equipment that failed and stayed failed long enough for an inspector to catch it — in a senior housing building, in particular, that's a mobility issue for the people who live there, not just a compliance line. All four violations carry hearing dates between December 8 and December 18; building owners and managing agents with elevator service contracts at these addresses should confirm corrective filings before those dates.
