New Jersey's DOT is lining up its 2027 term contracts for roadside repair, and it's doing it in two regional pieces. The Central Region contract (RFI-002429) covers beam guide rail and crash attenuator repair across Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, and Warren counties. The North Region contract (RFI-002965) covers structural steel and aluminum repair across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties.

Both are term contracts, which means there's no single project to estimate — a firm is bidding unit prices for repair work that gets called in as needed, often after a crash. For the guiderail contract, that means response time and night work matter as much as the per-unit number; a DOT crew doesn't want a damaged guardrail sitting open on a highway shoulder for a week. Neither bid carries a published value estimate, which is typical for this contract type — NJDOT doesn't know how many cars are going to hit a guardrail in 2027 any more than Riverhead knows how many water mains will break.

This is out-of-area work for an NYC-based shop, but it's real money for anyone already doing highway maintenance work in New Jersey. Prequalification and bonding with NJDOT are required before a firm can even submit — that's not a formality, it's a gate, and it needs to be cleared well before October 15 if it isn't already. Firms without current NJDOT prequalification should treat this cycle as the one to miss and the next one as the one to prep for.

Bids for both close October 15.
