The Thruway Authority filed the same job three times today, and that's the story. "Replacement of TDS Equipment" — traffic data systems, the roadside sensors and counters that feed the Authority's traffic monitoring — is out to bid as three separate regional contracts, all due October 14, all on the NY State Contract Reporter.
RFI-002365 covers the Syracuse and Buffalo Divisions: Cayuga, Seneca, Ontario, Monroe, Genesee, Erie, and Chautauqua counties (nyscr.ny.gov/Ads/Details/2138910). RFI-002366 covers the Albany and Syracuse Divisions: Ulster, Greene, Albany, Schenectady, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Columbia, Herkimer, Oneida, Madison, and Onondaga counties (nyscr.ny.gov/Ads/Details/2138912). RFI-002367 covers the New York Division: Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, and Orange counties (nyscr.ny.gov/Ads/Details/2138914). Three contracts, eighteen counties between them, upstate to the city line.
None of the three postings carries an estimated value in the Contract Reporter listing. That's normal for equipment-replacement IDIQ-style work — the Authority buys and installs sensor hardware as needed across a territory, and the dollar figure depends on how much gets ordered, not a fixed scope. What is fixed is the geography split, and that's useful information on its own: a low-voltage or traffic-systems contractor working out of Rochester has no reason to chase the Bronx package, and vice versa. Pick your division.
Splitting one program into three regional lettings is a pattern worth knowing if you do this kind of work anywhere in the state — it means the Authority is not looking for one contractor to cover Buffalo to Westchester, it's looking for three. If you've got the right electrical or traffic-systems license and a local crew, this is a lane sized to you, not to a statewide prime.
Two more small jobs cleared the board today with the same due date. A asphalt repair and maintenance contract for the West Hempstead Water District (RFI-003325) is out at 575 Birch Street in Nassau County — bid documents sit on the Biddy Projects plan room and you need to register to pull them, so don't wait until the morning of. And DCAS re-posted a roof and waterproofing job on a building in Jamaica, Queens (RFI-000003, CSB 151-20) after a corrected re-filing; it carried a mandatory site visit September 15 and a pre-bid conference September 16, both already past, so if you're bidding this one you needed to have been in the room weeks ago.
Small-scope work like this moves fast and quiet — no value estimate posted, modest trade scope, a due date that doesn't leave room to sleep on it. If any of these five fit your trade and your territory, today is the day to pull documents, not research them.
