A signalman was struck during tower crane hoisting operations at 29-10 Northern Boulevard in Long Island City on August 20, according to Buildings Department records. The violation states the worker was hit while a power float was being lowered by the crane to a second-floor terrace.

DOB cited RC Structures Inc. $10,000 — a Class 1 violation for inadequate safety measures in the crane operation. The same day, Leeding Builders Group drew two more at the same site: $5,000 for losing control of the load with the use of a tag line, and $2,500 because the area where the injury happened was crowded with equipment and material.

A day earlier, the site had drawn a separate safety violation for failure to certify correction of a hazardous condition — so the paper trail at this address was already open when the crane pick went wrong.

All three violations are active, with hearings scheduled for late October. The records state what inspectors found; the hearings will decide the charges. For every crew working under a hook: the tag line and the clear landing zone are in the record for a reason. The $17,500 is the smaller cost on this one.
