Out in Sullivan County, the Town of Thompson is putting its Emerald Green Pump Station Improvements Project out to bid, with proposals due October 29 at 2 p.m. at the Town Clerk's office in Monticello — bids get opened and read publicly right there.

The job is to replace a sewer pump station and forcemain, plus install four generators, at the Emerald Green pump station sites in Rock Hill, within the Town of Thompson. It's split into two separate contracts: GC-1 for general construction and EC-1 for electrical construction, and each one carries its own 5% bid guarantee — that's a bond or deposit showing you're serious and can back up your bid. A contractor can go after either or both, but they're bid and bonded separately.

If you want to walk the site before pricing it, there's a pre-bid conference October 15 at 1 p.m. right at the project site — it's encouraged but not required, which for a pump station job with underground piping and electrical tie-ins is still worth the trip. Bid documents themselves come from the project engineer, MHE Engineering, and there's a $50 fee to get the digital set.

This is the kind of project where background helps explain why it exists: the Town commissioned a report back in August 2020 to look at upgrading its wastewater treatment plant for the Emerald Green-Lake Louise Marie and Rock Hill sewer districts, driven by the need to meet updated water quality standards and add capacity. Since then, the Town folded those two districts into one combined sewer district, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation sent a letter this past January about funding tied specifically to a pump station improvement project in that district — so this bid looks like the construction phase of a plan that's been in the works for a few years, with state funding help lined up behind it.
