Rocon Corp. is taking sub bids on CUNY Baruch College South Campus Boilers and Asbestos Abatement, in Manhattan. Its ad on the New York State Contract Reporter, CR#2139565, wants quotes by November 3. DASNY's own solicitation under that same title, No. 381120, opens November 5 at 2:00 PM. That leaves the prime two days to fold your number into its bid.

DASNY describes the job as architectural general construction work tied to new boilers, condensate vacuum pumps and domestic hot water heaters in the existing cellar boiler room at Baruch College, 137 E 22nd Street. The list reads like a menu of sub trades: patching and recoating the boiler room walls and floors, new lighting, crack injection repairs and waterproofing at the perimeter cellar walls, ceiling, frame and glazing work in room CE-07, a new door and landing, and partial roof repairs and patching on the second-floor roof so the mechanical equipment can go up there. Asbestos abatement is in the title.

DASNY's estimated cost range runs from $6 million to $7 million. The low bidder has to sign the project labor agreement in the contract documents. The ad as boarded doesn't list trades or set-aside goals, so check the bid documents for the participation requirements before you price.

So let's say you're a waterproofing sub. Crack injection in a cellar tank room is the kind of line where your number either holds or eats your margin, so go to the pre-bid meeting on October 15 at 9:00 AM and ask whether bidders will get to see those walls. DASNY says all prospective bidders are strongly encouraged to attend.

What to do next: DASNY sells the full contract documents through Camelot Print and Copy Centers, and only a set bought that way makes a firm an official plan holder of record. DASNY also says the plan holders list and a list of interested subcontractors and material suppliers can be viewed on its website, so look at who's already there. Then get your quote to Rocon Corp. by November 3.
