The State University of New York's Potsdam campus is renovating ADA bathrooms at Bowman Hall, 44 Pierrepont Avenue, and the job has generated an unusual cluster of postings on the New York State Contract Reporter. Four separate listings for the same project — RFI-002955 (the SUNY posting itself), RFI-003106, RFI-003171, and RFI-003372 — are all seeking subcontractor and supplier bids ahead of an October 26 due date.
That's four outreach ads for one bathroom renovation. When a prime posts the same subcontracting opportunity multiple times through different channels, it usually means the trade pool for that scope — plumbing, tile, ADA-compliant fixtures and partitions — is thin enough that the general contractor wants to cast as wide a net as possible before the bid closes. For a plumbing or tile sub working the North Country, that's a signal worth reading: there's real appetite on the other side for your price.
None of the four postings name the prime contractor, the trade split, or an estimated value — the Contract Reporter listings function as outreach notices rather than full bid packages, so interested subs need to click through to each listing (RFI-002955, RFI-003106, RFI-003171, RFI-003372) to find the actual contact and scope documents. A $14 million dormitory job this isn't; ADA bathroom retrofits in an existing academic building are exactly the bread-and-butter scope that keeps a small plumbing or general trades outfit busy through the winter.
Two other Yates County and Onondaga County postings round out this week's upstate mechanical and renovation scope: Yates County is replacing Air Handler #12 at its Penn Yan office building (RFI-003199, also due October 26), and a separate M/WBE outreach notice is circulating for mechanical renovations to Coyne Hall at Onondaga Community College (RFI-003385, same due date). Different counties, different buildings, but the same calendar — if you're bidding North Country or Central New York mechanical work this week, October 26 is the date to have on the wall twice.
