The firm is the prime seeking subs on two unrelated jobs, both due today — an ADA-compliant main lobby vestibule retrofit at SUNY Stony Brook (RFI-000224, CR#2136840) and a full renovation at Suffolk County's Yaphank Correctional Facility (RFI-000225). Same prime, same deadline, two different counties' worth of scope. If you're a GC or sub who's worked with Preferred before, today's the day to have both quotes ready.

The Yaphank job is worth a second look on its own. Preferred Construction isn't the only prime fishing for subs there — E.W. Howell has its own sub ad running on the same facility, filed as CR#2137656, and a separate posting (RFI-001464) lays out the actual M/WBE goals: 7% MBE, 5% WBE, also due today. Three separate listings pointing at one correctional facility renovation is usually a sign the job's big enough to need more than one sub per trade — worth a call to both primes if you do site work, MEP, or finishes in Suffolk County.

Carver Construction is running the same play on a smaller scale, upstate. It's the prime seeking subs on two heavy-civil packages that both close August 31: the Nott Street Sidewalk Improvements in Schenectady (RFI-000327) and the Simmons Road Culvert Replacement (RFI-000328), location listed simply as "New York State." Paving and culvert work rarely shares a prime by accident — if you do sitework or drainage upstate, this is a two-for-one worth chasing.

Two more due-today items are worth flagging on their own terms. The City of Yonkers' Hudson River Museum chiller replacement (RFI-000113, IFB-7593) had its closing date pushed from August 21 to today — a week's slip that's easy to miss if you bid it early and moved on. And if you want an actual number to price against, NYS Parks has one: the Cold Spring Harbor State Park parking lot rehabilitation on Long Island carries a posted estimate of $1.08 million (RFI-000075), due September 1. Most of what's on the board this week comes with no dollar figure attached — this one does, which makes it the easiest of the bunch to size up before you commit estimating hours.

None of these are headline jobs. That's the point of this desk — a $1.08 million parking lot, a chiller swap, a vestibule retrofit. But two primes running double sub-searches on the same closing date is exactly the kind of pattern that tells you where the actual work is this month, not just where the big number is.
