Maven Construction Corp. opened a $1,032,000 lead on the P.S. 186 exterior job in Bensonhurst. Its bid was $15,698,000 when the NYC School Construction Authority opened solicitation 26-23268D at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, June 8. Fourteen firms bid.

The school is P.S. 186 Dr. Irving A. Gladstone, 7601 19th Avenue in Brooklyn. The scope is flood elimination, exterior masonry, windows, parapets and roofs. The SCA's anticipated awards list showed the masonry and flood pieces in its $4 million-and-over bracket. It's on our board as RFI-000410.

The gap from first to second is 6.6%, and third place was $1.85 million back of the low. The median was $19,016,000, so Maven came in 17.4% under the middle of the field. The spread from low to high is 50.6%. The SCA did not publish an engineer's estimate. Apparent low is not an award.

Four weeks earlier, Maven finished fifth of 24 at P.S. 90 in Queens, $1,045,000 behind the low. On this one it had the sharpest pencil. That's how the SCA's exterior market works right now: the same firms trade places job to job, and a firm's position on one tab tells you little about the next.

Why this matters. A 6.6% lead is real money on a $15.7 million job. The low bidder has room in its number. Subs who priced to KOKO or CVM and are now chasing Maven shouldn't assume they need to cut.

What to do next. Masonry, roofing, window and waterproofing subs: get numbers to Maven Construction Corp. and keep KOKO Contracting, Inc. current until the SCA acts. The award flag and Wicks names will post on the tab for 26-23268D.

Update, Sept. 28, 2026: The SCA's tab now marks Maven Construction Corp. as awarded at $15,698,000, with MAR-SAL PLUMBING & HEATING, INC., Thermo Tech Mechanical Inc. and Core Electric MEP Industries, LLC named as its Wicks subcontractors.
