The New York State Office of General Services wants a new elevator inside a state office building in Long Island City, and 71 firms have pulled the plans to look at it.
The job is Q1971C — Replace Elevator at the Centralized Services Building, 1006 35th Avenue — bid through OGS Design & Construction. It's listed as elevator and electrical work, due October 21, the same day OGS opens bids on the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center roof package and the new National Guard headquarters in Albany. Three separate OGS jobs, one afternoon, three different contractor pools.
“Seventy-one firms want the plans for one elevator. That's not a typo — that's a state contract with a line out the door.”
Seventy-one plan holders is a big list for a single-elevator swap — bigger, in fact, than the plan-holder counts on three of the four Creedmoor trade packages. That's a plan-holder count, not a bidder count: it means 71 firms requested the documents, not that 71 firms will show up with a number on bid day. OGS doesn't publish a running list of who's actually bidding until the tab opens.
For an elevator contractor or electrical sub working state work, this is a small job with a real line of interested parties — worth watching whether that interest turns into a tight field or a wide spread when the tab posts. OGS's own site carries the solicitation and the October 21 bid date; nothing is awarded yet.
