Two New Jersey agencies account for 175 of the 1,000 bid results on The RFI Wire's board right now — more than NYC's School Construction Authority and Department of Design and Construction combined.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation shows up 101 times in the results set. NJ Treasury's Division of Property Management and Construction, which handles state building work, adds another 74. Add them together and you get 17.5% of every tracked result in the dataset — from one state's highway department and one state's building agency.

“One state's highway department and one state's building agency account for more tracked results than NYC's School Construction Authority and Design and Construction combined.”

Compare that to NYC's two biggest construction agencies. NYC School Construction Authority shows up 32 times. NYC Department of Design and Construction shows up 11 times. Combined, that's 43 — a quarter of New Jersey's count from the two agencies that built most of the city's schools and public buildings this cycle.

The open-bid side of the board tells a smaller but consistent story: New Jersey Treasury DPMC has 7 live postings right now, and New Jersey DOT has 6. Neither is the busiest agency on the open-bid list — that's SUNY with 22, the VA with 17, and DASNY with 14 — but New Jersey's presence on both sides of the ledger, open and closed, is steady rather than a one-time spike.

This isn't new money or a new program announcement. It's a pattern in how much paperwork two New Jersey agencies generate relative to their New York counterparts — results that get posted, tabulated, and tracked at a volume New York's own big agencies don't match in this dataset.

None of this means New Jersey work is less competitive or easier to win. Average bidder count across the whole board sits at 8.3, and the average spread between low and second bid is 22.9% — both numbers are set by the full 1,000-result mix, not isolated to any one agency.

What this means for you: If you're bonded to work in both states, New Jersey's DOT and DPMC post and close results at a volume worth tracking as closely as NYC's bigger-name agencies — the bid room traffic is there even without the brand recognition. How we count: Counts come from the 1,000 most recent bid results and 375 open postings on The RFI Wire's board as of November 4, 2026; agency tallies reflect how often each name appears as the posting or awarding agency in that set.
