Mark your calendar for October 28 — that's when the Greenlawn Water District wants bids in by 9 a.m. for a wellhead treatment system to deal with 1,4-dioxane, a chemical that's been turning up in groundwater, at Well No. 5.
The site sits at the corner of Wicks Road and Larkfield Road in Commack, out in Suffolk County. This isn't one big contract — the district split it up, and the plan-room listing shows general, electrical, HVAC and plumbing work all bid separately. So if you're a electrician or HVAC shop who doesn't want to chase a full GC job, there's a lane here sized for you.
There's no dollar estimate on this one in the public listing, and no bidder count yet since it's still open. What we do know: the water district has real money behind facility upgrades. A town board hearing on file priced facility improvements for this same water district at an estimated maximum cost of $5,385,000, covering rehab of water facilities — so this wellhead job fits into a bigger push to fix up the system, not a one-off repair.
If you work water treatment, electrical hookups for treatment equipment, HVAC for a wellhead building, or plumbing tie-ins, this is worth a look regardless of your size — multiple prime contracts means multiple ways in.
Bid documents are on the Biddy Projects plan room, and you'll need to register to download them. Do that soon if you want time to price it before the October 28, 9 a.m. deadline.
