Nassau County gave bidders more time. The Department of Public Works' 2027 General Requirements Contract, H66302-REQ1, was set to open September 29. The county amended the solicitation and moved the opening to October 13 at 10:30 a.m.

This is the county's on-call general construction contract for 2027. A requirements contract means the county doesn't hand you one job; it calls you for work as it comes up. If you win it, that's a price you live with all year, whatever volume the county calls in, so build it carefully.

Who's looking? The county's posted bidders list, dated September 21, before the date moved, shows eight firms: L2H Group LLC, LandTek Group, Laser Industries, Inc., Pencol Contracting Corp., Pratt Brothers, Inc., Rosemar Contracting, Inc., Thomas Novelli Contracting and Tully Construction Company Inc. A bidders list is a floor, not a census, and the extra two weeks leave room for more names.

Here's the history. The 2023 edition of this contract, H66302Y, was billed as “Various Civil/Site Reconstruction” and opened October 18, 2022. The county's summary of that opening lists bids read aloud from Laser Industries, Inc. and Pratt Brothers, Inc., and both firms are on this year's list. That summary says it does not reflect the department's determination of the lowest responsible bidder, so read it as the opening, not the award.

What to do: get the amended documents and bid items from the county's bidders-list page, read the amendment before you touch a number, and have your bid in by 10:30 a.m. on October 13.
