Three SUNY campuses posted construction bids on the same October day, and if you chase campus work, all three just became worth a phone call. Binghamton University wants a general contractor for the College in the Woods elevator replacement, bids due November 6. SUNY New Paltz has a roof replacement job covering multiple buildings, let through the State University Construction Fund, due November 10, with bids opened at SUCF's Albany office rather than on campus. And SUNY Canton is replacing a synthetic turf field, also due November 6.

Here's the thing about SUNY work — it doesn't all run through one door. Binghamton's job and Canton's turf field were posted directly by SUNY itself in the Contract Reporter. New Paltz's roofing job runs through the State University Construction Fund, a separate authority that builds and finances SUNY's academic buildings. Same university system, two different contracting agencies, two different sets of forms and bonding requirements — so don't assume your SUNY paperwork from one job carries over to the next.

“Same university system, two different contracting agencies, two different sets of forms — don't assume your SUNY paperwork from one job carries over to the next.”

None of these are huge dollar jobs by state standards, but that's exactly who they're built for. A turf field replacement and a multi-building reroof are the kind of general construction work a mid-size regional contractor can actually staff and bond without stretching thin, and three of them landing in one week means the fall SUNY capital cycle is moving. Add in the OGS elevator job already open at the Centralized Services Building in Long Island City — also due October 21 — and the elevator and building-envelope trades have four live SUNY-system opportunities to chase in the same month.

If you do elevator work, roofing, or synthetic turf installation and you've been waiting for public higher-ed jobs to open up, this is the week. Binghamton and Canton both close November 6; New Paltz follows four days later on November 10. Pull the bid documents now — SUCF in particular requires separate registration from standard SUNY procurement, and that's not a form you want to be filling out the morning of.
