Two subcontracting notices hit the NY State Contract Reporter this week, both chasing MWBE and SDVOB participation on prime contracts that have already been bid or are close to it — and both are worth a look for subs who missed the original solicitations.
The first is tied to a replacement of the synthetic turf field at SUNY Canton, with outreach responses due November 9 (RFI-005106). The second is tied to NYSDOT contract D265813, a culvert replacement job spanning Otsego and Schoharie counties, with outreach due November 12 (RFI-005130). Neither posting names the prime contractor or a dollar value — these are subcontractor and supplier outreach ads, not the bid itself, filed under the state's MWBE/SDVOB program requirements.
That's useful information on its own: when a prime posts an outreach ad this close to a bid deadline, it means the prime still needs to document good-faith efforts to hit its MWBE/SDVOB subcontracting goals. For a certified MWBE or SDVOB firm in trucking, trades, or supply doing work upstate, these ads are a direct line to get on a bid list without having to cold-call a GC.
What to do next
If you're a certified MWBE, WBE, or SDVOB firm that can work in St. Lawrence County (SUNY Canton turf field) or in Otsego/Schoharie counties (the NYSDOT culvert job), respond to the listings at nyscr.ny.gov before the November 9 and November 12 deadlines respectively — these outreach windows close fast and the prime needs a paper trail of contacted subs before its own bid closes.
