The state's Office for People with Developmental Disabilities has four small renovation jobs open right now at individualized residential alternatives — the small group homes OPWDD runs for people with developmental disabilities across the state. Two are kitchen renovations, due October 30: one at 7814 Gulick Rd in Naples, NY (RFI-003218), one at 6807 Richmond Mills Rd in Livonia, NY (RFI-003219). Both are listed as general construction work on the NY State Contract Reporter.
Two more are roof jobs. The Long Acre IRA at 198 Long Acre Rd in Rochester needs a full roof replacement, due November 3 (RFI-003220). None of the four postings carry a published estimate, which is normal for this program — OPWDD runs these as small, scattered single-building contracts rather than one bundled capital package.
That scattering is exactly why this is a Small Projects story and not four separate briefs. A GC or roofer who sets up a relationship with OPWDD's facilities office isn't bidding one job — they're positioning for a recurring stream of small renovations at group homes across upstate New York, the kind of steady, boring, well-funded work that never shows up on a headline capital plan but keeps a small crew booked year-round.
Sleepy Hollow's volunteer fire house roof (RFI-003262, also due October 30) belongs in the same conversation even though it's a different owner. The Village of Sleepy Hollow needs a new roof on its Beekman Avenue fire house — a decorative slate section on the historic north side, a shingled rear section built to carry future solar panels, and a flat rear section loaded with telecom equipment. It's bid as a base bid plus two alternates to the lowest qualified bidder, and because it's state grant money, it carries 15% MBE and 15% WBE participation goals. No pre-bid meeting is listed, so a roofer who can read slate, shingle and flat-roof detailing off the plans alone has a real shot without ever stepping on site first.
All five jobs below are open now on the state and village portals. None lists a dollar estimate, so treat these as relationship-building work rather than single-job home runs — the kind of file a small GC or roofing outfit builds a public-sector practice on.
