Four federal repair and renovation jobs in New York are on SAM.gov right now, and all four are set-asides — meaning the agency has already decided what kind of company gets to bid before anyone looks at a number.

The Department of the Air Force wants Suite H8 in Building 3 renovated at its Rome, NY installation (RFI-005001), due November 2. It's a total small business set-aside under NAICS 236220 — general building construction — so any qualifying small GC can chase it, but a firm that doesn't meet the size standard shouldn't waste the estimating hours.

Two Department of Veterans Affairs jobs are reserved tighter still, for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses only, under FAR 19.14. One is a stair and roof replacement at Building 13 of the Castle Point VA Medical Center (RFI-002404), due November 4. The other is a repair job for operating room and bathroom leaks at the VA facility in East Orange (RFI-003150), also due November 4 — plumbing and waterproofing work inside a working hospital, which usually means phased access and infection-control protocols layered on top of the scope.

Separately, the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation — part of the US DOT — is bidding winter shotcrete repair at the Eisenhower Lock in Massena (RFI-003340), due November 4. It's also a total small business set-aside, NAICS 238110 (concrete contractors), and the "winter" in the title isn't decoration: this is cold-weather repair on lock infrastructure, timed to a maintenance window when the lock itself may be out of service.

For a small or veteran-owned shop that qualifies, this is four live federal opportunities inside the same week — worth checking set-aside eligibility against NAICS 236220 or 238110 before pricing either the Rome, Castle Point, East Orange, or Massena scopes.

Meanwhile, two aging-building-systems jobs are moving through NYC's own channels without the set-aside filter. NYC Health + Hospitals is bidding a cooling tower replacement at Harlem Hospital's Ron Brown building (RFI-002279) through City Record Online, due November 5. And at CUNY's Baruch College South Campus, a boiler replacement and asbestos abatement job (RFI-003155) posted on the NY State Contract Reporter is explicitly a subcontracting opportunity — the prime is soliciting sub bids, due November 3, with HVAC and environmental abatement trades both in scope.
