NYCHA and Gordian just launched a mentorship program built to pair small construction businesses with established ones and open up workforce opportunities on public housing work, according to a release picked up by FinancialContent on August 26.

Gordian is the company behind the unit-price books a lot of public agencies lean on to run Job Order Contracts — JOC, for short: bundle a bunch of small repair and renovation tasks under one pre-priced menu instead of bidding each one from scratch. NYCHA uses that model across its portfolio, and matching new firms with mentors is clearly aimed at growing the bench of contractors who can actually run one.

Timing here is not nothing. NYCHA is carrying 18 live solicitations on our board right now — more open work than any other agency we track. If you're a small or M/WBE shop that's been priced out of that pipeline because you don't have the bonding history or the paperwork chops yet, this is the on-ramp the housing authority is telling you to use.
