The New York State Department of Transportation finished a $3.4 million bridge replacement on State Route 5 in Chautauqua County, the agency said Friday, and on the same day announced construction has started on a rest area renovation in Delaware County on the East Branch of the Delaware River corridor.

The Route 5 bridge is done and open; DOT's release gives no information on the contractor, bid amount, or original letting date beyond the $3.4 million project cost. The Delaware County rest area job is now in its construction phase, per DOT, with no contractor named and no completion date given in the release.

Both projects are state-funded capital work completed through DOT's regional construction program rather than its larger multi-year corridor contracts. Chautauqua County sits in DOT Region 5, in the far western end of the state; Delaware County is upstate in the Catskills region, Region 9.

Neither release names the contractor of record, which keeps both projects out of The RFI Wire's own bid board — a reader who wants the award history on either job will need to go to DOT's own bid-letting archive or file a FOIL request for the contract file.

DOT routinely announces completions and construction starts this way, in short regional releases rather than through its central capital-plan reporting. For contractors tracking DOT's Region 5 and Region 9 letting calendars, both releases confirm active construction funding is moving in those regions now, which is useful context heading into DOT's winter letting slowdown.
