NYCHA posted two RFQs on the same day this week, both routed through its design-build solicitation track rather than the open bid portal most contractors check first. One is for a basketball court rebuild at Clinton Hill Houses in Manhattan, due October 15. The other is elevator rehabilitation work at the Cassidy Lafayette and Woodson Houses campuses, due October 8.

Both are filed as RFQs — request for qualifications, the step before a contractor even gets to price the job — under NYCHA's capital projects division. That's a different door than the standard open-bid listings, and it's one reason NYCHA's renovation pipeline routinely surprises contractors who only watch the main portal.

Neither posting carries an estimated value or a plan-holder count yet. The elevator job (RFQ #517985) closes first, on October 8, giving interested firms about four weeks to get qualified and in the door before the basketball court RFQ (#517934) closes a week later.

For a GC or elevator contractor working NYCHA campuses already, this is worth flagging early: RFQ responses take real lead time to assemble — safety record, bonding capacity, past NYCHA performance — and a four-week runway on the elevator job is tight if you're starting from scratch.
