Two New Jersey agencies are still running away with The RFI Wire's bid-results tracker. The New Jersey Department of Transportation shows 101 recorded results and the NJ Treasury's Division of Property Management & Construction shows 74 — a combined 175 results out of 1,000 tracked statewide, more than every NYC agency in the dataset put together.
Compare that to the city side: NYC School Construction Authority carries 42 results, NYC DDC has 14, NYCHA has 7, and NYC DEP has 7. Add every NYC agency row in the results table together and the total still doesn't reach what NJDOT alone has logged. That gap held exactly steady from the prior cycle — NJDOT and DPMC posted the identical 101 and 74 counts a day earlier, meaning this isn't a one-day blip, it's the shape of the dataset right now.
“Add up every NYC agency's results in the tracker and New Jersey's DOT still wins on its own.”
The open-bid side tells a smaller but consistent story: DPMC has seven live postings today, up from seven yesterday too, while NJDOT isn't carrying a comparable number of fresh open postings in the same window — its volume shows up in results, not in what's currently out to bid. That pattern fits an agency that lets work in batches and the tracker is simply catching up with the lettings as they resolve.
For the market as a whole, the headline numbers haven't budged: 8.3 average bidders, a 22.9% average spread between low and high bid, and low bids running 5.2% under engineer's estimate — identical across both cycles. New Jersey's heavier presence in the results column doesn't appear to be dragging those averages one way or the other; it's simply where the volume of resolved, tabulated public work is concentrated right now.
What this means for you: If your estimating team is only watching NYC portals, you're watching the smaller half of the tracked market — a contractor with NJ bonding capacity and DOT prequalification has meaningfully more tabulated, resolvable work to chase right now than one watching NYC agencies alone. How we count: Counts reflect results currently logged in The RFI Wire's bid-results dataset (1,000 total records) as of the two most recent daily snapshots. This is a sample of tracked results, not a complete registry of every public bid resolved in either state, and agency coverage depth varies.
