The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development added eight businesses to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List, known as The WALL, the agency announced. This is a New Jersey state action, not an NYC Department of Buildings record — contractors working across the Hudson should read it as such.

Per the NJDOL announcement, the eight newly listed businesses owe a combined $743,826.95 in unpaid wages, fines and penalties, including penalties tied to noncompliance with New Jersey's Workers' Compensation Law. The WALL now carries 402 employers total, who collectively owe $37 million to workers or to the state for unpaid taxes, contributions, fines or penalties, according to NJDOL.

Any business listed on The WALL is barred from public contracting with New Jersey state, county or local government until its liabilities are paid in full, per the NJDOL release. The agency said it has recovered $1,241,338.32 from businesses that were posted to the list or warned they would be added if they didn't resolve outstanding liabilities.

NJDOL did not name the eight businesses in the portion of the release provided. The full list is maintained on NJDOL's WALL page.

No NYC Department of Buildings incident records were available for this reporting period. Three complaints were entered into DOB's complaint system on October 23 — at 99 Wilson Street in Brooklyn (elevator, category 6M), at 50-18 42nd Street in Queens (construction, category 23), and at 37-06 36th Street in Queens (elevator, category 6S) — but a DOB complaint is an unverified allegation, not a confirmed violation or incident, and none is reported here as a standalone event.
