Down in Hampton Bays, the Town of Southampton is looking for a contractor to pour the foundation for a new water treatment system — bids are due October 14 at 2 p.m.
This is Contract F, the foundation construction piece of a bigger project to remove PFAS — a group of man-made chemicals found in some water supplies — from Hampton Bays Water District's Plant No. 3. It's a straight general construction scope, and it's one of two contracts out right now for this plant; a separate contract covers the carbon filter equipment itself.
The posting requires a bond, and it carries a prevailing-wage case number, meaning workers on this job get paid the government-set wage rate for the trade and area. There's no site walk-through listed, and the deadline to ask questions already passed on October 7.
The district got a $4,705,200 state grant to pay for this project, which is going in because two of the plant's supply wells turned up low levels of PFAS. The fix calls for four pressure filters packed with granular activated carbon — basically a big filter media that grabs the PFAS out of the water — plus some work on the plant's electrical systems and buildings. For a foundation contractor, that means you're pouring for equipment that has to carry filter vessels, not just a slab.
Bid documents are on the Town's ProcureWare portal. Bids are due 2 p.m. on October 14 — same deadline as the companion GAC absorber contract for this plant, so if you're eyeing both, get your numbers in early.
