The New Jersey Department of Transportation put out a call for an on-call maintenance timber and underwater structural repair contract for the northern part of the state, with bids due October 22.

The job covers various locations across eight northern counties, running on crew-hour rates and a force-account adjustment factor rather than a fixed scope. To be allowed to bid solicitation DP27434, a contractor needs a specific prequalification from the state. You must hold a New Jersey DOT Work Type 4, 4b, or 5 classification.

On top of that, bidders must be registered with the New Jersey Department of Labor right at the time of the bid, and state prevailing wage rules apply to the work. The agency set a 3 percent Small Business Enterprise goal for the contract.

The state’s estimated range sits between $5,000,001 and $10,000,000. The principal quantities tell you exactly what kind of shop this takes: 7,000 hours for a timber crew, 1,700 hours for a diving crew, and a 2,700,000 force-account adjustment factor. This is the northern piece of three companion contracts hitting the street this month, and it carries the most timber hours and by far the largest force-account quantity of the bunch.

For a marine contractor, this is a year of steady, assigned work if you have the crew depth to handle the hours. Bids go in electronically through Bid Express by 10 a.m. on October 22, and the state reads them in Trenton.
