The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, known as DASNY, is taking bids for a renovation of the Field Building at CUNY Baruch College that includes asbestos and hazardous material abatement. Proposals are due December 1.

This is the only hard number on record here: the December 1 due date. No bidder list, no plan-holder count, and no stated M/WBE goal appear in the posting itself — check the actual bid documents for any such requirement.

This isn't DASNY's first run at this building. The agency previously put out a Phase 2 renovation and asbestos abatement job for the same Field Building, under a different solicitation number, with proposals due back in October 2022 — that one is now archived. The building itself currently holds administrative offices, 60 classrooms, 8 computer labs, and 19 science labs, and the plan is for it to come out the other side with smart classrooms, updated science labs, a student lounge, and staff offices. A separate, earlier phased renovation of the building was valued at $109 million across 285,000 square feet, so this is a building DASNY has been investing in piece by piece, not a one-shot job.

For a contractor who does abatement or institutional renovation work, an occupied CUNY building with a history of phased work like this is worth a close look — DASNY clearly isn't done investing here, and there could be more phases to chase down the road. Pull the bid documents under Project No. 389050, look hard at the abatement scope since that's called out by name, and get your bid in before December 1.
