The bid board held at 449 open packages this morning, down from 452 a day earlier, and the state DOT lineup is the one piece of that board that keeps getting bigger.
New Jersey's Department of Transportation now has 18 open solicitations on the board, same count as yesterday, and it's running alongside 9 open jobs from the state's Treasury Division of Property Management and Construction. Add those together and New Jersey state agencies account for 27 open construction packages right now, more than NYCHA, DASNY, and NYC's own School Construction Authority combined on the open side.
“New Jersey isn't just posting more work. It's actually closing more of it.”
New York State's own DOT, by contrast, shows just 8 open solicitations today. That's not a data error — it reflects where each agency is in its letting calendar — but it means a GC scanning the open board for heavy civil and paving work right now finds more live New Jersey tickets than New York ones.
The results side tells the same story in dollars already spent. Of 1,000 recent bid results in the system, New Jersey DOT accounts for 65 of them and NJ Treasury's DPMC another 41 — 106 closed New Jersey state jobs against a combined 10 for New York's own DOT and NYSDOT tabulations. New Jersey isn't just posting more work. It's actually closing more of it.
Three other agencies worth flagging on the open side: Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation (NYS) and the Dormitory Authority each sit at 14 open jobs, and SUNY has 19. Those three alone make up more open volume than the entire open NYCHA, DDC, and NYC Health + Hospitals lineup combined (4, 2, and 6 respectively).
The agency labeled 'Unspecified' still carries 83 of the 449 open bids and 386 of the 1,000 results — a reminder that close to a fifth of the open board and more than a third of the closed-result archive can't be attributed to a named agency from the posting alone. Treat any agency-level count here as a floor, not a ceiling.
What this means for you: If you do highway, bridge, or sitework and you're not registered to bid New Jersey state and DPMC contracts, you're sitting out the busier half of the regional public highway market right now. How we count: Counts come from today's open-bid board (449 packages) and the most recent 1,000 recorded bid results, both tallied by the agency name as posted; postings without a clear agency are grouped as 'Unspecified' and excluded from any agency comparison.
