New stairs at the Pinebrook Tennis Center with ADA handrails, cheek walls and a mid-level landing, plus a rebuilt access drive, new curbing, a drainage swale and a reconstructed accessible parking area. Unit-price contract, 22 items, and the city printed its own quantities: 310 cubic yards of excavation, 185 of subbase, 180 tons of asphalt, 375 feet of curb, 13 cubic yards of concrete. Sixty calendar days to finish, $250 a day if you run over, and subcontracting is capped at 49 percent. Two things to check before you bid: the asphalt spec only allows placement between May 1 and October 7, and bids do not even open until September 30. New Rochelle will not accept a bid bond -- the 5 percent deposit has to be a certified or bank check, and you must already be registered in the state Department of Labor contractor registry or the bid is thrown out.
