Suffolk County is renovating and repurposing the original Yaphank correctional facility in the Town of Brookhaven. Bids open September 15; the county's listing gives the date without a time, and the original notice set 11:00 AM. Every worker on a county public works contract of $250,000 or more has to hold a 10-hour OSHA construction safety card before doing any work, so line that up early if your crew is short of cards. Renovation and adaptive reuse of the original Yaphank jail for correctional officer training, administrative functions, and the Sheriff's START re-entry program: full interior renovations, replacement of the freight elevator with a new hydraulic passenger elevator, replacement of all windows, entry doors and storefront systems, plus new parking areas, landscaping, fencing and security-driven site improvements. Bid as a single prime contract; bidders submit a separate sealed list naming their plumbing, HVAC and electrical subcontractors. The July 30 pre-bid walk-through was not mandatory, so you can bid without having attended. Project Labor Agreement applies.
